Charges recommended in Highlands Ranch PETCO crash

HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. -- Investigators have recommended charges be filed against a driver who crashed her SUV through the front of a PETCO store in Highlands Ranch in early November, injuring six people.

Mary Ane McGee, 54, faces 6 counts of Careless Driving Resulting in Bodily Injury, which is a Class 1 misdemeanor.

On Nov. 5, investigators say McGee backed her Dodge Durango out a parking space and went through the front entrance of the PETCO at 1265 Sgt. John Stiles Drive, hitting customers inside.

“Two separate tests were conducted on the vehicle, one by the Colorado State Patrol and the other by the Chrysler Corporation,” Douglas County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Cocha Heyden said in a statement.

“The results indicated that there was no apparent vehicle malfunction during the incident.”

HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. -- Five people were hurt, one critically, when a driver crashed into a Petco store in Highlands Ranch Friday afternoon, authorities said.

The accident happened at about 1:30 p.m. at 1265 Sgt. Jon Stiles Drive.

According to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, the driver said she put her Dodge Durango in reverse and the accelerator stuck. The vehicle backed through the store front, hitting customers inside.

"I've never seen anything like that in my life," said Danielle Conny, who witnessed the accident.

Conny told FOX31 News the driver "had sheer panic on her face.  There were no other words for her face, she knew she was going to hit something."

Trina Glenn heard the crash, too.  "She said my accelerator got stuck.  She was kind of confused, she wasn't sure what happened," Glenn said.

DENVER -- Colorado plumbing companies were inundated with calls this weekend from residents whose pipes burst.

Master Plumber David Bright with Applewood Plumbing Heating and Electric says his company got hundreds of calls each day.

Rosie Malinovskii was one of them. "I think I'm lucky I got somebody over here," she said. She says she woke up on New Year's Day and had no water. She knew her pipes were frozen. She says a few hours later she heard the water dripping from the ceiling in the basement.
