Text a $25 donation to the Red Cross through Dec. 31

DENVER -- Cell phone users can text the word GIFT to 90999 from now through December 31 to make a $25 donation to the American Red Cross.

Donations will support the work of the Red Cross, including disaster response, collecting lifesaving blood, teaching skills that can save a life, or assisting military members and their families.

More than 1,000 Thanksgiving baskets distributed

DENVER -- Volunteers of America distributed more than a thousand Thanksgiving baskets to low income families Monday morning at the VOA Mission in Denver.

Recipients had to pick up vouchers beforehand to exchange for the holiday baskets, with included a 15-20 pound frozen turkey, fresh fruit, sweet potatoes, and the traditional Thanksgiving side dishes. 

More than 100 World War II veterans honored at Veterans Salute ceremony

AURORA, Colo. – In honor of the 65th anniversary of the end of World War II, more than one hundred WWII veterans will receive commemorative coins at a special reception before the annual Veterans Salute luncheon. These men and women will be greeted by local active duty military personnel and thanked for their service before being handed their coin.

More than 800 veterans and their families, military, community and civic leaders and others will honor the more than 25 million living U.S. veterans and active duty personnel, with a particular emphasis this year on military personnel who served in WWII.

Bon Jovi coming to town for January fundraiser

DENVER -- 2011 Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame nominee Bon Jovi will come to Denver on January 21, 2011 to perform an exclusive, one-night show to celebrate the 5th anniversary of the Center for Dependency, Addiction and Rehabilitation (CeDAR) and raise funds for its important mission of rebuilding lives.

“The Evening with Bon Jovi is a wonderful opportunity for the community to support CeDAR – a leader in the treatment of dependency and addiction – while enjoying the intimate performance of an American music legend.” says Bruce Schroffel, President and CEO of the University of Colorado Hospital – to which CeDAR is affiliated.  The Evening with Bon Jovi will be held at the Colorado Convention Center and will include a silent auction, dinner and the Bon Jovi concert.

150,000 meals donated to area relief agencies

DENVER - FoodWorks Colorado served local hunger relief agencies with free non-perishable food during the agency's fall blessing event.

FoodWorks distributed the equivalent of 150,000 meals during the one day event.

Cyberschool students gather for Red Ribbon Week

LITTLETON, Colo. – Hundreds of cyberschool students from across Colorado and their families will gather at Botanic Gardens at Chatfield on Wednesday, Oct. 27, to mark Red Ribbon week, the oldest and largest drug prevention campaign in the country.

Students will pledge to be drug-free and career-focused in a ceremony that will feature a fly-over and landing of a National Guard helicopter.  Following the ceremony, students and their families will celebrate by participating in a corn maze and other festivities at the Botanic Gardens.

The event is scheduled from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Botanic Gardens at Chatfield, located at 8500 Deer Creek Canyon Road in Littleton.
