BLM, Forest Service begin offering permits for Christmas trees

Christmas may be nearly two months away, but the federal Bureau of Land Management and the U.S. Forest Service are already offering Christmas tree permits.

The permits are valid at the BLM Royal Gorge Field Office and the San Carlos Ranger District .

Comcast to announce Internet initiative aimed at Colo. low-income families

Comcast is announcing a program aimed at providing low-income families in Colorado with Internet access and laptops at reduced prices.

Gov. John Hickenlooper and Denver Mayor Michael Hancock will be at Denver's South High School Wednesday morning to talk about the program. It would allow families with children who qualify for free school lunch to have Internet at $10 per month and laptops for $150.

The program called Internet Essentials will also provide free digital literacy classes to the families.

August 1st marks the one-year anniversary of the expanded child passenger safety law in Colorado, which means law enforcement will starting pulling over and giving $82 citations to drivers transporting children under age 8 who are not in a car seat or booster seat. Previously, the law only required child safety seats for children under age 6.

Join the Highlands Ranch Concert Band for our annual children’s concert at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 6 at Civic Green Park, 9370 Ridgeline Blvd., Highlands Ranch, CO.  We invite the kids up to conduct the band, see the instruments when the music is done and enjoy an otter pop on us.  They are also welcome to dance in front of the stage.
