Senate has hearing on bill that would help lower income Coloradans with hospital charges

The Senate Health and Human Services Committee will hear SB 134 – the Hospital Payment Assistance Act  – today, Thursday, February 16, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. in Senate Room 356 at the State Capitol, after a morning of constituent lobbying and the 6th annual Colorado Health Care Day of Action.  One hundred health care consumers, business-owners and nonprofit members will advocate to ensure that uninsured working families get the financial assistance information they need to responsibly pay their hospital bills.   Constituent lobbyists will learn how the legislative process works, attending advocacy workshops, meetings with legislators, lunch, a keynote address by Deputy Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services Bill Corr and a legislative panel entitled Colorado Health Care Vision 2020.

Congresswoman DeGette calls on President to endorse stronger hydraulic fracturing protections

Congressman Maurice Hinchey (D-NY), Congresswoman Diana DeGette (D-CO) and Congressman Jared Polis (D-CO) today asked President Obama to back stronger environmental and public health standards to protect against the risks of hydraulic fracturing. In a letter, the House members requested the President's support for the Fracturing Responsibility and Awareness of Chemicals (FRAC) Act, which would require the disclosure of chemicals used in the hydraulic fracturing natural gas extraction process. The legislation would also eliminate a special Safe Drinking Water Act exemption for hydraulic fracturing that was established in 2005.
