M.S. student takes on school budget cuts with Facebook | News

HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. -- She’s only been on this earth 13 years, but Hayley Stromberg wanted to make a difference for generations to come.

So she created the Facebook page called Douglas County Kid Campaign 2012.

The page is only one part of her effort to increase school funding for Douglas County schools and decrease class size.

“We are at a pretty advantaged school,” Hayley says, “and we’re hit pretty hard by these budget cuts.”

Last week, the 8th grader at Ranch View Middle School in Highlands Ranch, spoke before the Douglas County School Board meeting.

“The timeline is the summer,” says Douglas County School District’s Randy Barber. “This is a decision that’s really a Board of Education’s.”

“I like to aim high, that’s kinda who I am,” says Hayley.
