Northridge Elementary students in International mathematics competition | Schools
Title (Max 100 Charaters)
Twenty-one Northridge students in grades one through six recently completed a unique six-week math competition with 75 international students.
Two teams from Northridge Elementary brought home first place medals from the Fermi-Off-The-Wall Math League event. The third/fourth-grade team members are Gabe Bernini, Benjamin Kaufman, Wentao Zhang and Andy Mu. The fifth/sixth-grade team consists of Leo Bao and Brian Mao.
Fermi-Off-The-Wall Math League is an Internet-based math competition for first through ninth-graders, which emphasizes process-oriented, creative problem solving. Fermi problems are designed to foster growth in problem solving, analytical thinking, creativity and Internet skills.
Students use non-routine problems to encourage creative mathematical thought and to discover the joy of exploring challenging math problems outside their math classes.
Northridge will be competing in the winter session that begins January 31, 2012.
